Flora Belle Gilchrist, went to meet her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the age of 91 years old. Her late husband, Clifford Gene Gilchrist, was there to meet her and welcome her home. Flora Belle was born on December 9, 1934, in Belleville, WV, to the late Arthur S. and Dorothy Ozell Anderson. She was married to the love of her life for 67 years upon his passing. She was a current resident of Washington, WV and at the time of her death was living with her daughter and son-in-law.
She had one brother, the late Paul E. Anderson. She is survived by two children, Michael G. Gilchrist (Barbara) of Coolville, OH and Kay M. Fluharty (Rod) of Washington, WV. She had three grandchildren, Nathan G. Fluharty (Hollie) of Washington, WV; Ashley K Leisure (Scott) of Pettyville, WV and Brett M. Fluharty (Mindy) of Parkersburg, WV. She also had three step-grandchildren, Matthew Boyd (Rachel) of Belpre, Andrew Boyd of Marietta, and Sarah Romans (Josh) of Belpre. She had seven great-grandchildren, Braxton Leisure of Pettyville, Brady Leisure of Pettyville, Addison Fluharty of Washington, Emma Fluharty of Washington, Easton Fluharty of Parkersburg, Millie Fluharty of Washington, and Brooks Fluharty of Parkersburg. Four step-great-grandchildren, Madison Leisure of Parkersburg, McKenzie and Kaylea Boyd of Belpre, and Joel Boyd of Belpre. She also loved her Washington Terrace Apartment friends walking and socializing group. They were very close and loved being together.
She was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Adult Ministry.
She loved watching her great-grandchildren participate in sports, she loved traveling, shopping, and just socializing with people and family. She will always be remembered as the most kind, caring individual ever.
Dr. Kyle Neal, Pastor of Fairlawn Baptist Church, will be conducting the funeral and the graveside service. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 11:00 AM at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, with visitation from 4 -8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to House to Home Day Shelter Capital Campaign c/o Kay Fluharty, 544 Washington Meadows Drive, Washington, WV 26181. She loved helping Kay make sandwiches for those less fortunate and giving whatever she could to the homeless in our area.
