Farrel Gene Shaffer, 75, of Parkersburg, W.Va., moved into his new home in heaven on Friday, June 13, 2014, after an extended illness, in Summersville, W.Va.He had just completed a two day mission of trout fishing in his hometown that he loved so dearly.He was born July 14, 1938, in Richwood, W.Va., a son of the late Herman Luther and Mamie J. Alkire Shaffer.He was an avid outdoors man, loved hunting, fishing and singing with his family.He never met a stranger and was know by many nicknames, “Preacher Man”, “Fetch”, “F.S.”, but above all “Dad”.He is survived by six children, Kimberly Shaffer of Ripley, W.Va., Dwayne Shaffer of Elizabeth, W.Va., Sandra Shaffer and Teresa Schreckengost both of Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Beverly and Maria Shaffer both of Parkersburg; one sister, Ruth Fitzwater of Charleston, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two four legged children, Woody and Sissy.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister; four brothers; and his beloved dog, Spanky.Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Raymond Tanner officiating.Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mineral Wells.Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of serviceat the funeral home.Donations are appreciated to help defray unexpected expenses.
