Date and Time of Service: Saturday, October 9, 2010 1:00 p.m.posted 10/7/2010 at 8:41:07 AMEvelyn Doris Smith, 86, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away October 5, 2010, at her residence.She was born October 3, 1924, in Rusk, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lemon and Minnie Dotson.Evelyn was a homemaker and especially enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. She had played softball in high school for the Cairo Pharaohs, her hometown High School softball team. She was also a member of the Belpre Church of Christ and Lynn Street Church of Christ.Surviving is one daughter, Charlotte Smith of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one son, Phillip “Duane” Smith and wife Sandra, also of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Bridget Smith, Stacey Smith, and Jaime Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Benaiah, Evie, and Nathan Lewis; one brother, Carl Dotson of Harrisville, W.Va.; and seven nieces, Emily Bodie, Beverly Webber, Rose Verbetan, Jean Cayton, Debbie Walker, Elaine Miller, and Kathy Whietis.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mancil Smith, who passed away in 1986; two sisters, Sarah Miller and Nellus Williamson; and two brothers, Clarence and Dallas Dotson.“Above all, Evelyn led a remarkable life. She faced adversity with strength and grace; fed those who were hungry, cared for those who were sick, and lived each day marked by compassion, grace and kindness. The love Evelyn exuded daily was insurmountable. She offered hugs when they were most needed; encouragement if you ever doubted yourself; a sense of humor when you were feeling down, and put love and happiness in places where there was once none. In so many ways, big and small, she left her imprint on this Earth and we will hold her in our hearts forever.”Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with Evangelist Tom Butterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
