Eugene Burl Mathers

Eugene BurlMathers, 88, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away December 22, 2014 at his residence.He was born November 9, 1926 in Burnthouse, W.Va., a son of the late James Owen and Hazel Fredrick Mathers.Eugene graduated from Harrisville High School and entered the U.S. Army.On returning from the service he worked at Mid Atlantic Glass Plant at Ellenboro, W.Va. He also worked for the Ford garage in Harrisville and worked at E. I. DuPont, retiring after 35 years of service. He loved hunting and sitting in his tree house just looking in the woods, riding his four wheeler and spending time with his family.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was a boxer. He was a member of the NRA and a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna for over 61 years, where he held many jobs throughout the years. Eugene is survived by his wife of 68 years, Julia Broadwater Mathers; two sons, James (Linda) Mathers of Walker, W.Va., and Jack (Kimberly) Mathers of Vienna, W.Va; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his twin sister, Ernestine Valentine of Cleveland, Ohio.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.Funeral services for Eugene will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 27, 2014 at Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna with Pastor Greg Markins officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave, Vienna on Fridayfrom 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the Good Samaritan Center or the Building Fund at Wayside United Methodist Church, 3001 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, WV 26105.
