Erma Tawney Gore

Erma Tawney Gore, 86, was born October 7, 1929, in Boone County, WV and passed from this life Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Born in Lick Creek, WV, Erma was the eighth of nine children of David and Nora Ball Tawney. She attended Scott High School in Madison, WV and married Oren Gore on September 11, 1948 in Madison. They lived in several locations in WV and also in Cleveland, OH before settling in Parkersburg in 1948. Erma spent her life caring for their home and children. She took great pride in her family and the home she and Oren built together. Erma was a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ and attended regularly until recent years when health issues kept her primarily homebound. Erma’s father, David Tawney, had served as a pastor with the Church of Christ in Danville, WV and Erma’s faith was a very import element of her life. In addition to her husband, Oren, she is survived by three children, Greg Gore (Judy), Connie Stone, Tim Gore (Diane); five grandchildren, Matt Stone (Erin McCoy), Amy Gore (Sam McFee), Spencer Gore, Holly Long (Brian), Chelsea Gore; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Canary and Noelle Long; one step-great-grandchild, Dylan McCoy; one sister, Frances Kincaid of Madison, WV; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis Tawney, Shelby Tawney, and James Paul Tawney; and four sisters, Violet Tawney, Ruby Dent, Ruth Harris and Marcella Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg with Pastor Andy Robison officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25 and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
