Emmett Richard Parr

Emmett Richard Parr, 88, of Parkersburg passed away February 12, 2018 at Belpre Landing Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born January 26, 1930 in Cairo, WV son of the late Richard Calvin and Teresa Lemley Parr. He was a 1948 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He was a career U.S. Air Force veteran and retired in 1976 after 26 years of service. He took his basic training in San Antonio, Texas and served in Germany, France, Great Falls, Montana, Tampa, Florida, Guam, Maine, Alaska, Nebraska, Torrance, California, Turkey, and Lompoc, California. He had worked for Easy Rider bus service as a driver following his retirement. Emmett was a member of the American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW of Parkersburg. He was a life-long bowler and once bowled a perfect game. He was a United Methodist by faith. Emmett is survived by his wife, Helen Joy Parr; three daughters, Deanna Warden (Don) of Las Vegas, Karen Farrah (Bill) of Parkersburg and Teresa Masinter (Randy) of Charleston, WV; two sons, Charles Parr (Debbie) of Jacksonville, FL and Mark Parr (Amy) of Honolulu, Hawaii; two stepdaughters, Debbie Bennett (Doug) of Belpre and Vickie Finn (Brendan) of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Sarah Board, Ethel Vick, Mary Alice Hardman and Mildred Sutton all of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Doak Parr; a sister, Naomi Cassell; and an infant brother, Ralph. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Rev. Jonathan Nettles officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church @ 1210 20th St. Parkersburg, WV 26101.
