There is now a video tribute to Elven on this web site.Elven Lee Jones, 73, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23 2015 at Camden Clark Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born January 20, 1942 in Cedar Grove, W.Va., the son of the late Joe L. and Ruby Alene Jones.Elven was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family and friends and talking about old times, politics, sports, or whatever was going on in their lives. He genuinely enjoyed talking with everyone he came in contact with and developed many close relationships by doing so.In his early years, Elven was deeply involved in many clubs and organizations for which he donated countless hours raising funds and promoting events. He was a member of the Parkersburg Lodge No. 169 A. F. & A. M.He loved collecting matchbooks from all of the places that he had traveled over the years.Elven loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his testimony with those around him.He was a member of Baptist Temple, Parkersburg, W.Va., and served on various boards when he was in good health. God blessed Elven with a beautiful singing voice which he shared with the congregation at Baptist Temple through solos, choral presentations and men's ensemble groups. In addition to singing, Elven was a talented trumpeter and pianist.Elven took great interest in his children's and grandchildren's activities, both academically and athletically. He logged many miles traveling to their various sporting events throughout the state of West Virginia. Education was very important to Elven. He would follow up with each grandchild after each report card to see how they did and would monetarily reward them for various levels of achievement.Upon graduating from Cedar Grove High School in 1960, Elven worked tirelessly at Borg Warner while attending night school at Marietta College to obtain his Bachelor's Degree, majoring in chemistry.Elven retired from his position as a Technical Superintendent at International Converter, Inc. (formerly Kaiser Aluminum) in 2005 after 34 years of service.During his time with the company, he was responsible for designing and implementing many products that received a patent for the company. Elven is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Freda B. Jones; son, Douglas Alan (Kelly) Jones of Parkersburg, W.Va.; daughter, Angela Dawn (Robert) Roach of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; son, Joseph Todd (Sherri) Jones of Washington, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Derek Alan Wenzel; Trevor Douglas Jones; Kelly Camille Jones; Andrew Michael Witt; and Siarra Maree Jones; Christopher Allen Roach and Rebekah Sue Roach; one great-grandson, Ryker Elijah Wenzel; one sister, Sharon Toothman (Allen) of Ravenswood, W.Va.; and many precious cousins on both sides of the family.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara K. Deel.Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2015 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna with Pastor Larry Dale officiating and will conclude with interment in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kelil of Camden Clark Medical Center for his kindness and compassion towards Elven and his family.Additional thanks to Mary Midkiff, a special friend to both Freda and Elven and a helper/caregiver to Elven.
