Elizabeth “Betty” Shearer Whipkey, 94, of Vienna, WV, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016 at her apartment in Pleasant View Towers in Vienna surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born April 25, 1922, in Fayette County, WV, a daughter of the late John and Ethel Hamrick Shearer of Clay, WV. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Mrs.William) Downs of Huntington, WV; grandson, William Martin (Pam) of Ashland, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and William Thomas; grandson, Matthew (Lorrie) Downs of Oshkosh; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Anna; son, Richard (Barbara) Whipkey Jr. Of Parkersburg WV. Grandson Richard Whipkey 111 of PA.Great granddaughters, Selena Whipkey and Jadyn Whipkey both of St. Marys, WV; grandson, James (Julie) Whipkey of Browns Mill, NJ.; great grandchildren, Travis and Rachel; grandson, Andrew (Nicole) Whipkey of Flushing, MI.; greatgrandchildren, Raleigh, Piper, Lucas and Anthony; granddaughter, Rebecca (Matt) Shockey; greatgrandchildren, Leah and Cooper; daughter, Neva (Mrs. Brad) Stuck of Fairmont, WV-grandchildren, Derek, David, Hali and Hana; her beloved sister in-laws, Carolyn Dotson Whipkey of Hebron, Ohio and Hazel Reedy Shearer of Clay, WV. In addition to her parents Elizabeth was preceded in death by her five brothers, John T., Pat, Jimmy, Donald and Robert Shearer and four sisters, Ruth Field, Gladys Huddleston, Hairett Moore and Rachel Boggs. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna with Pastor Eric Nielson officiating. A memorial service will be given by the Order of the Eastern Star Post 14. Betty was a member for fifty two years of Grantsville Chapter #73 where she is a Past Worthy Matron. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Grantsville, WV. Visitation will be from 12-2 P.M. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Amedysis Hospice for their special care they provided.
