Edwin Paul Barrett, 85, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away peacefully on September 21, 2016 at home with his family at his side after an extended illness. Edwin Paul was born October 10, 1930, the son of the late Delbert Hall and Bessie May (Hiley) Barrett in Parkersburg, W.Va. A graduate of Parkersburg High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served for 4 years and was honorably discharged in August of 1954. He was then employed by E.I. DuPont where he worked for 16 years. He left DuPont to pursue private enterprise. He was an owner of Vienna Auto Parts, sole owner of D & J Auto Parts and Big A Muffler in Parkersburg and Paden City Auto Parts in Paden City. Mr. Barrett was one of the organizers of the Paden City Bank and served many years on the Board of Directors. He was an avid car collector and fisherman. He enjoyed many happy times with family and friends at the family fishing camp in Canada. He was a 32nd Degree Mason affiliated with Mount Olivet Lodge #3 in Parkersburg and member of American Legion in Parkersburg. Edwin is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 59 years, Betty J. (McMillan) Barrett; four children, David W. Barrett (Janeen) of Lochloosa, FL, Laura Merritt (Joel K.) of Washington, W.Va., Jennifer Ridenhour of Walker, W.Va. and Janet Barrett of Vienna, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Heather Lawson (Scott), Elizabeth Angelillis (Brian), Joshua Ridenhour (Whitney), Jeremy Ridenhour (Samantha) and Abigail Ridenour; nine great-grandchildren, Dane, Stella and Finn Angelillis, Luke and Owen Lawson, Preston, Aiden, Landon and Connor Ridenhour. In addition to his parents Edwin was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Bull of Texas and brother, Russell W. Barrett of South Carolina. The family expresses deep gratitude to the caregivers who selflessly and lovingly tended to him during his long illness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Housecalls Hospice of Parkersburg, 1226 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101. Funeral services for Edwin will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna with Reverend Norman Butler officiating and full military rites by the American Legion Post 15. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home in Vienna.
