Eddy was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, and went on to graduate from Potomac State College. He then worked for E.I. Dupont for 36 years as a machinist until he retired in 1992. Eddy enjoyed singing, and was a member of the A-cappella Choir at PHS, and was chosen for All State Choir. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he continued his love of singing in the choir and also served on many committees over the years.
In 1957 he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann (Cooper) Sheppard. They have three sons, Eric (Kimberly) and Randy (Kelly) both of Mineral Wells, and Brian (Michelene) of Bridgeport. They also have eight great-grandchildren, Kyndal and Malayna Sheppard, Ayden and Natalie Tincher, Westin Sheppard, Hannah and Cassidy Grady, and Anthony Carroll.
