Douglas Edward Dailey, 62 of Parkersburg, WV passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017 while holding the hands and being surrounded by the most important people in life to him, his family. Doug was a devoted and loving husband of 33 years to his true love and soulmate, Pamela Sue Mitchell Dailey. He was loving father to his children, Melissa Sue Dailey, and Amanda Marie Dailey; he was also known as Papal D and Poppy D to his grandchildren Landen Douglas Williams, Layla Grace Williams, and Liam August Wilks. Doug grew up in Parkersburg, WV and at an early age knew the meaning of a hard day’s work. Although, he lived his life here in Parkersburg, he worked tirelessly as a truck driver for 30 years. He made many friends while driving the highways of our country to provide a wonderful life for his family. He started his career with JB Hunt, then many years at Bulkmatic, and finally at TSD, while employed he developed life-long friends and family with his co-workers. Doug was a firm believer in working hard in life, an impeccable work ethic, and integrity, all of which he instilled in his children from a young age. Doug was given a second chance in life after receiving a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 1998. He survived six months of treatment and a bone marrow transplant from his sister Carrie. His bone marrow transplant took him to the brink of death, but Doug being the fighter he was, persevered. Living true to his motto of “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”, Doug continued working even after this life altering event, once again acting selflessly for his family. When Doug was home from the road his main goal was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his love, Pammy. He looked forward to hunting trips with his life-long best friend Mike Richards and fishing, whether it was at the pond behind his house or on the intercostal waters of Florida. Doug was a man that was true to his word, and if you didn’t want honesty, then he wasn’t the one to ask. Even though he was brutally honest, Doug was a kind man who would give the shirt off his back to help a friend in need. His sense of humor was exceptional, anyone who knew Doug in this life, knew him with a smile on his face, a sarcastic comment, and a joke to tell. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his daughter from a previous marriage, Cynthia “Cindy” Dailey; his brothers and sisters, Sue Ashley (Terry) of Bales City, Missouri, Janet Eakin of Parkersburg, Carrie Hammond (Joe) of Rockport, Tina Staats of Bales City, Julie Dailey of Parkersburg and Jimmy Dailey of St. Marys; his half brother, Calvin Dailey Jr. (Gloria) of Parkersburg; nieces and nephews, Barbie and Clay Chidester, Jenny Keffer, Justin Dailey, Katie Riggs, Tony Roush, Maggie Parsons, Brandon Dailey, and Kelley, Michael and Zachery Dailey; brother in-law, Gary Mitchell (Sue) and their children, Russell and Lora; two sister in-laws, Lisa Jacob (Ron) and their children, Shane, Craig, Parker, Peyton and Alicia and Christine Cottrill and her son, Brandon; and several other nieces and nephews.
