Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Cothern, 72, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at Ohio State University Hospital. She was born March 14, 1943, in Wood County, W.Va., the youngest daughter of James Walter “Walt” and Clara Ruth Poling Taylor. Dottie was a 1961 graduate of Parkersburg High School and retired from Dudley’s Florist after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Bethany White Shrine #4 and in 1975 was Worthy High Priestess, was Secretary for 17 years and granted lifetime membership for her service. She was a member of Eastern Star #14 Parkersburg and Big Tygart United Methodist Church. Dottie was a devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother. She loved flowers and people. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bernard F. Cothern; two sons, Michael Cothern (Missy) of Ormond Beach, FL and Mark Cothern (Beth) of Mineral Wells; one sister, Evelyn Jones (Boyd) of Mineral Wells; one brother, Ray Taylor of Freemont, OH; five grandchildren, Hannah Cothern, Haley Cothern, Grayson Enoch, Whitney Cothern and Jack Michael Cothern; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Tom, Paul and her twin brother, Don Taylor; and two sisters, Anna Wright and Shyrlene Heath. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, South Parkersburg with Pastor Rod Blanchard officiating. Interment will follow Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mineral Wells. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
