He was born in Richwood ,WV a son of the late Wilda Zickefoose and Robert Holbert and was raised by his grandparents the late Dollie and Dolph Holbert in Richwood, WV.He graduated in 1949 from Richwood High School where he played football, basketball and later played semi pro football in Carlisle,PA; was retired from DuPont after 37 years of service; a member of Vienna Baptist Church; 50 year member of Vienna Masonic Lodge #172, 32 degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, member of the Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg , Calvary Commandery #3; 50 year member of the Vienna Chapter #151 Order of Eastern Star where he served as Past Patron, Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of WV and former General Grand Chapter Committee member.Donald loved to camp in his motor home, fishing, hunting, football and sitting by the ocean. He coached little league baseball, basketball and football. A loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, who will be truly missed.He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ruth Greene Holbert; son Gene A. Holbert(Jane), daughter Pamela K. Headlee (Larry) and son Brandon D. Holbert (Dee); 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; three brothers Robert, Richard and Tom, a special Sister-in-law Kathryn Mack and Snickers his precious pup.In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by one brother Wayne Holbert and his faithful companion Mort.Funeral services will be 11 am on Saturday October 2, 2010 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 3005 Grand Central Ave Vienna with Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Masonic Graveside rites by Vienna Masonic Lodge #172. Visitation will be 3-5 and 6-8 on Friday at the funeral home with Eastern Star services conducted by The Past Grand Matrons and Past Grand Patrons of the State of WV Order of Eastern Star at 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in the memory of Donald Holbert to Housecalls Hospice of Parkersburg and the Parkersburg Humane Society.
