Don Edward Wood, 91, of Reedy, W. Va, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.Don was born at home on July 31, 1919, in Reedy, W.Va., the youngest son of the late Pearl Andrew and Fannie Agnes Cain Wood. He graduated salutatorian from Spencer High School with the class of 1938. After serving in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during WW II, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill.On March 27, 1948, Don married the love of his life, Jean Eleanor Schrader. After working as an electrician at B.F. Goodrich and Carborundum, he retired from Borg Warner with 20 years of service in 1982. Don was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He dearly loved and was loved by his family.Don was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church but also attended Good Hope Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. He was loved by all who knew him. Surviving is his four children and their spouses, Sheryll LeVasseur of Coolville, Ohio, Philip Wood and his wife, Cindy of Zanesville, Ohio, Diana Brock and husband Lonnie of Mt. Orab, Ohio, Marcia Hatmaker and husband Alan of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Richard Wood of Zanesville, Ohio, Elisa Hatmaker Lutz (Jason) of South Charleston, W.Va., Clinton Cole LeVasseur of Coolville, Jena Hatmaker of St. Albans, W.Va., and Alaina Hatmaker of Parkersburg; six great-grandchildren, Emily and Tyler LeVasseur of N.Y., Faith and Hannah Wood of Zanesville, Jaxson and Evan Lutz of South Charleston, and Joel “J.J.” Edward Wood II soon to arrive; and one sister, Betty Daggett of Parkersburg.Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Jean E. Schrader Wood; his grandson, Joel Wood; his great-granddaughter, Rachael Jean Wood; two brothers; and four sisters, who were awaiting his arrival in Heaven. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, at South Parkersburg Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Busch and Pastor Lloyd Hamlin officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery at Reedy, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #15.
