Derwin Joy Yoak, 66, of Parkersburg, WV went to be with his Lord on February 2, 2022. He was born on March 20, 1955, a son of the late Joy Robert and Adelphia Radabaugh Yoak of Five Forks, WV. Derwin graduated from Calhoun County High School, class of 1973, then Glenville State College in 1977. He received his Masters from WVU in 1982. He has resided in Parkersburg since 1983 and previously lived in St. Mary’s, WV for seven years. He began his career by teaching at the Pleasants County Middle School from 1977 to 1983. He was on the faculty of St. Mary’s High School from 1983-1989. In 1989, he went to the Central Office as the Assistant Business Manager. After 30 years of service, he retired in 2007 from the Pleasants County School as the Treasurer of the School Board. He also taught evening classes at WVUP from 1985-1989. In his younger days, he had been a runner, bowler and had taught adult fitness classes. He enjoyed working in his yard tending to his shrubs and flowers. He loved people and got much satisfaction helping others. Derwin is survived by his partner of 36 years, Ron Stephens; sister, Bessie Hinzman Welch; brother, Lynn Robert (Zelma) Yoak of Five Forks, WV; sister-in-law, Patsy Yoak of Kentucky; uncle, Delmas (Sharon) Radabaugh of St. Clairsville, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a special friend that was like a grandson to him, Chandler Randolph; and his cat Alex, that he loved very much. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Sue Yoak; brother, Irwin R. Yoak; and two brothers-in-law, Kent Hinzeman and James Welch. Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg. Burial will follow in Evergreen South Cemetery of Parkersburg. Visitation will be will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Yoak family.
