Denzil Jess Mceldowney

Denzil Jess (Mac) McEldowney, 94, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away on June 14, 2016 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeport, W.Va., February 17, 1922, to Harry Leslie and Daisy Mae Kisner McEldowney. He graduated from Grafton High School and then worked in a CCC Camp for six months. He then went to Arthurdale and studied welding. His first job was welding on ships before WWII in Groton, Connecticut and later in Baltimore. He entered the Navy in 1943 and was a baker on LST 778 in the South Pacific. After the war, he became a welder for Hope Gas. He welded for 37 years before retiring in 1983. Mac was proud that none of his welds ever failed a leak test. After he retired he painted and did woodworking. He loved giving his pictures and his wood working away to his relatives and friends. Mac is survived by his daughter, Jessica “Jay” Adair and her husband, Bob of Vienna. His grandson, Shawn works in Aiken, SC as a chemical engineer. He also is survived by a brother, Dorsey McEldowney of Bridgeport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hester T. Sisler McEldowney; five brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services for Mac will be 11:00 a.m., Friday June 17, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, W.Va. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Friday.
