Denzil Paul Barton, 78, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away on April 17, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.He was born February 12, 1936, in Wirt County, W.Va., a son of the late Jesse and Girtha Cline Barton.Denzil was a 1955 graduate of Wirt County High School where he was an outstanding football player. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Dupont Washington Works with 37 years of service. He was a supporter of Parkersburg South Sports and Erickson Stadium. He coached youth basketball and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he was a deacon and had served in many other areas and committees of the church. He was also a member of the Dupont Retirees Club.He is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. Johnson Barton; three daughters, Peggy Robertson of Smyrna, Tenn., Jackie Boston (Rusty) of Charleston, S.C. and Jessica Ward of Mineral Wells; one son, David Barton (Charlene) of Parkersburg; two sisters, Beatrice Oliver (Gene) of Parkersburg and Rosie Hardbarger (Terry) of Wirt Co, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and his fur baby, Sophie.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Lott; three brothers, Robert, Pearl and Leon Barton; six sisters, Geneva Barton, Marjorie Ecker, Marie Hardbarger, Gladys Hayes, Dora Cowan, and Opal Hardbarger.Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Michael Lamb officiating and flag presentation by the American Legion Post #15, Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
