David Lee Burke Sr.

David Lee Burke Sr., 83, of Rockport, began his heavenly journey on June 5, 2024. He was born February 12, 1941, a son of the late Clifford and Ruth Burke.

During his 83 years of life, he was an operator for the powerhouse at Washington Works, where he retired after 36 years of service. He was a bus driver for Wood County schools, and a preacher at Morristown Church. He enjoyed traveling all over and seeing all the sights the US has to offer. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, telling jokes or pulling pranks, and spending time with his family. He especially loved tinkering; if the sun was up, he was fixing to do something or other, not an idle bone in his body.

Left to cherish David’s memory is his loving wife of 62 amazing years, Ilene Burke; his four children, Cheryl West (Dave Fought), Daniel Burke (Nora Caplinger), Lucinda Starcher (Eric), and David Burke II; three brothers, Lawrence (Margaret), Dennis (Brenda), and John (Cindy); and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren that he spoiled rotten.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, June 10, 2024 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Enoch Pursley officiating. Burial will follow at Big Tygart Rockport Cemetery. Family will accept visitors from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
