Clyde Raymond Cooper

November 5, 1930 — February 24, 2024

Clyde Raymond Cooper, loving husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2024, at the age of 93.  Clyde was born on November 5, 1930, in Wood County, on the same land that he later built his family home.  He was the son of the late Lewis R. Cooper and Clara B. Cooper.

A man of deep integrity and devotion, Clyde was a loving husband to his wife, Barbara Ann Cooper, for 63 years until her passing.

Clyde loved to fish and was known to go out fishing early, not returning home until after dark.  His other hobbies included tending to his vegetable garden, beekeeping and selling his honey to local markets, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.  He had a warm sense of humor and a quick wit about him that was sure to make those around him laugh and smile.

As a father, he instilled honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic to his children.  He was a faithful servant of God and an example of love and commitment for all who knew him.

Clyde was a member of the 19th Street Church of God for over 60 years, serving on the Pastor’s Council and as an usher for many years.  He was a long-standing President of the 19th St. Church of God’s Senior Ministry, where he found joy in fellowship and fundraising activities.

He honorably served his nation in the U.S. Army with assignments in Alaska and England. After his military service, he worked at O. Ames and Johns Manville, later becoming a business owner of four service stations, including Cooper’s Service Center.

Clyde will be deeply missed by his sons, Clinton K. Cooper (Candace), Steven W. Cooper, Gregory L. Cooper (Chris); daughter, Connie M. Ek; and grandson, Colby C. Cooper (Elizabeth). He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Cooper, and daughter-in-law Julie A. Cooper.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm, with the funeral service following on Thursday February 29th at 1:00 pm at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in south Parkersburg, WV.
