Cheryl Middleton Ankrom, of Vienna, passed away after a four-year battle with cancer on January 7, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital at the age of 70, surrounded by family.
Born on November 12, 1953, Cheryl was the cherished daughter of Charles and Jean Yoak Middleton. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1971 and then Marietta College in 1975, where she acquired a deep love for learning.
Cheryl devoted over three decades to the Wood County School system, where she was a beloved teacher. Her passion for teaching math and science left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. From Blennerhassett to Van Devender and culminating at Jackson Middle School, Cheryl mentored and guided young minds through the intricacies of algebra and 8th-grade math.
Her devotion to the community extended to her active involvement at Vienna Baptist Church. Cheryl's service on numerous boards and committees, her role as a Sunday School teacher, and her volunteer work in the nursery exemplified her unwavering faith and dedication to nurturing others.
As a 30-year cancer survivor, Cheryl was a staunch supporter of causes close to her heart, serving as a Relay for Life team captain and lending her strength to the American Cancer Society.
Cheryl is survived by her parents, Charles and Jean Yoak Middleton of Vienna; her daughter, Jane Cirigliano (Jim) of Powell, OH; her son, Andrew Ankrom of Vienna; her brother, Steve Middleton (Stephanie) of Vienna; and her nephew, Jared Middleton (Alexandria) of Dover, DE. Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Ankrom, whose memory she carried with grace.
A celebration of Cheryl's life will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna, where Pastor Bill Brown will honor her memory. Visitation hours will be observed from 1-3 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. at the funeral home, offering friends and loved ones an opportunity to pay their respects and share fond memories.
Cheryl's legacy of passion for education, unwavering faith, and selfless dedication to others will forever echo in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her.
