Charles R. (Charlie) Davis, 83, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born May 1, 1927 at Long Branch, W.Va., a son of the late Ashley and Mabel Janney Davis. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy Sea Bees where he was stationed on the island of Guam. Charles was a Corporal of the WV State Police for over 23 years. He was a member of the retired WV State Police Troopers Assoc., Fraternal Order of Police – Lodge #107, and was chief investigator for the staff of Wood County Prosecutors Joseph McFarland and Harry Deitzler. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masons earning the 32nd degree and received a 50 year membership in August, 2009. Charles was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church in Parkersburg where he served on the Usher team. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Jo Ann Tolbert Davis; one son, Rick Davis and wife, Sherri, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one daughter, Sherry Davis Tracey of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Michael Tracey of Lexington, KY; two granddaughters, Tiffany Cook of Morgantown, W.Va. and Melanie Cook of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Janet Merrell of Madisonville, TN, and Reba Cockrell of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Gary Davis and wife, Carmen, of Clewiston, FL ; and numerous relatives and friends in the Mt. Hope and Parkersburg areas who were dear to him.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Latell Davis. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, 3329 Broad St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va.The family wishes to thank Housecalls Hospice for their excellent care and Dr. Siva for her professional guidance.
