Charles Ray Murray, 91, lifelong resident of the Morristown Community, Wirt County, passed away May 18, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born May 11, 1933, one of eight children of Cecil and Georgia Murray.
He graduated from Wirt County High School with the class of 1950. He retired from O. Ames after thirty-four years of service. He was one of the founding members of the Morristown Community Church and pastored there for many years. After retirement, he helped organize the Wirt County EMT service, served on the local Board of Education, served two terms as Sheriff of Wirt County, and eighteen years on the Wirt County Commission.
Charles is survived by his wife, Grace Cumberledge Murray, of seventy-four years; a son, Donald (Coleen); a daughter, Patsy Davis; brother, Herbert; several grandchildren; and many greats.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughters Debbie Van Dyke and Sharon Murray; siblings, Neva, John, Dorothy, William, Mary, and Lorraine.
Funeral services will be 11AM, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg with Pastor Jon Larrison officiating. Interment will follow at K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth. Visitation will be 4-8 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the funeral home.
