Carolyn J. Fluharty

   Carolyn J. Fluharty of Parkersburg passed from this life peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Camden Clark Medical Center.

   She was born in Parkersburg on December 10, 1941, a daughter of the late Ellsworth and Rosa Virden Gabbert. On New Year's Day, 1960, she married the love of her life, Buryl Jefferson Fluharty Jr. "Junior" and together they shared 52 years until his unexpected passing on December 23, 2011.

   Carolyn was a hard-working, caring, and strong wife and mother. She worked for the Kroger Company on Seventh Street in Parkersburg where she managed the Dairy Department until her retirement in 2001. She had worked with her brother and sister-in-law in their food truck making elephant ears and funnel cakes at many events in the tri-state area.

   She made time to take care of others, providing a home to many people over the years. Junior and Carolyn’s home was the heart of the family. Family and friends (who she treated like family) enjoyed gathering there for meals, homemade ice-cream, playing cards, and holidays. She would insist you take a plate of homemade baked goods, jar of apple butter, or other freshly made treat with you.

   Carolyn was an avid bowler at Ren-Dor Bowling Lanes, currently Pike Street Lanes, with a 299 game, and was a competitive Pinochle player. She enjoyed decorating her yard and home and she was known for her beautiful flower gardens and elaborate Christmas decorations.

   Her legacy of love will be carried in the hearts of her children, Cindy Shingleton (Steve) of Parkersburg, Jeff Fluharty (Angie) of Parkersburg, and Jason Fluharty (Tabby) of Vienna; grandchildren, Bobby Moore (Susan), Nicole Venuso (Anthony), Alexis Gilbert (Alexander), Tori Fluharty, Jaydon Fluharty, and Miranda Braham; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Evan, and Logan Moore, Ashely and Dante Moore, Myklyn Brown, Lydia, Lailah, Malachi, and Zion Venuso, and Isaiah, Adaline, and Andrew Gilbert; sister-in-law, Patsy Gabbert; and several nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

   In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death in 2011 by two brothers, Forrest "Bugs" Gabbert and Ellsworth Gabbert Jr.; in 2012 by her oldest daughter, Rosa L. Braham "Rosie", her only sister, Vivian M. Gabbert Kidd, and her last surviving brother, Kenneth Gabbert; and in 2015 by a grandson, Christopher Wayne Moore.

   A gathering of family and friends will be 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, Parkersburg with a time of remembrance conducted at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Jamie Sprague.
