Carol Evelyn Wheaton

Carol Evelyn “McFarland” Wheaton, 87, passed away on September 11, 2026, at Cedar Grove Assisted Living in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Born in Schultz, Pleasants County, WV., she carried fond memories of her childhood throughout her life. She loved telling stories about attending a one-room schoolhouse and the adventures she shared with her brothers. Some of her favorite memories were camping with her grandparents and walking through the countryside with her grandfather as he read meters. She especially remembered stopping along the way to drink wonderfully cold water from a natural spring – a simple childhood pleasure she never forgot.

She graduated from St. Marys High School in 1956. Church held a special place in her heart, and she was a member of the Lubeck Church of Christ.

She found happiness in the simple comforts of home and family. Those closest to her will always remember hearing her sing in the kitchen as she cleaned. It was one of the ordinary things that made being at home with her special.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Armour A. Wheaton Jr.; her parents, William Edward McFarland and Genevieve Maston McFarland; and her brothers, James “Jim” McFarland, Robert “Bob” McFarland, and Ronald “Ronnie” McFarland.

She is survived by her children, Gary Wheaton and Karen Foster (Jim); and her grandchildren, Mason Wheaton, Kaitlin Roberts (Zach), and Gregory Sams Jr.

She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

A Graveside service will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026. Entombment will follow the service in the Mausoleum at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, has been entrusted with Carol’s final wishes and is honored to serve her family.
