Emblem

Carl Alfred Kelly of Davisville, West Virginia, departed this earth peacefully on September 26, 2025, joining his devoted wife of 62 years, Pat, in heaven.

Born on April 20, 1939, in Spencer, West Virginia, Carl was raised by his grandparents, aunt and uncle alongside their three children on Kendall Mountain. Although an only child, his cousins were more like siblings, and he grew up farming, a foundation that shaped his lifelong work ethic.

At 17, Carl began a construction job that led to a lifetime dedicated to the art of asphalt paving. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Thailand, where he first discovered his craft and passion for paving.

In 1978, Carl and Pat founded Carl Kelly Paving, working across the state of West Virginia until what they thought would be retirement in 1992. While Pat was ready to rest, Carl, known as a tireless workaholic, couldn’t stay away from hard work. He returned to his farming roots, forming K&K Farms with his son, Scott, where he raised limousin cattle and enjoyed working with several teams of draft horses. Later, unable to resist the call of paving, he established All-Ways Paving before finally retiring in

Carl enjoyed watching Westerns, there was hardly one he hadn’t seen, working on the farm, baling hay, and spending time at the shop, often “whittling” (or napping) while counting the cars that passed by.

A founding and active member of New Hope Baptist Church, Carl will be remembered for his faith, his dedication to family and work, and his warm presence in the community.

He is survived by his son, Scott (Gina) Kelly; daughter, Mary Jo (Chris) Pedersen; sister-in-law, JoEllen (Richard) Hendrickson; and four grandchildren: Eric Kelly, Joey Kelly, Brittany (Chris) Lawhon, and Grace Pedersen. He also leaves behind his beloved Kendall cousins and many special friends, including the PALS.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home on Pike St., South Parkersburg, Saturday, October 4th, from 12–4 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 4 p.m.
