Cara Dowler James

October 22, 1972 — June 3, 2025

Massillon, OH

Cara Dowler James, 52, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away on June 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 22, 1972, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Cara was a proud graduate of Parkersburg South High School. She later earned her associate degree in dependency disorders from Mountain State College, a reflection of her deep compassion and commitment to helping others.

Cara dedicated her life to caring for those around her. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Heartland Behavioral Health, where she offered steady support and heartfelt care. In recent years, she pursued her love of travel by becoming a travel agent, helping others create lasting memories—just as she did with her own family.

Cara was the beloved wife of Kurt James and the proud mother of five children: Kevin, Kyle (Kathleen), Cierra, Carter, and Carson. Her greatest joy came from being “Grandma” to her two treasured grandchildren, Koah and Kenzie. She is also survived by her loving parents, Gary and Carolyn Dowler; her brother, Matthew (Crystal); and her nieces and nephews Eric, Ashton, and Reese. She leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother Eric; her grandparents, Kenneth and Clarice Roberts, and Floyd and Willie Dowler; and her in-laws, Jerry and Mary James.

Cara was the heart of her family—a bright, steady presence whose laughter could light up any room. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, loved, and understood. Whether spending time with her grandkids, talking with friends, or simply sitting with family, she brought warmth, humor, and love to everything she did.

Funeral service will take place, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home South with Pastor Wayne Boone officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service.

Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home South is honored to serve the James family.
