Betty Ann (Vassar) Jewell

Betty Ann (Vassar) Jewell, 79, of Doylestown, Ohio, formerly of Vienna, W.Va.went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2016 at the Heartland of Marietta. She was born July 8, 1936, in Summersville, W.Va., a daughter of the late George Berry and Jessie L. Rose Vassar. Betty graduated from Parkersburg High School with the class of 1954. She was a registered nurse and held a BS in nursing from Ohio University.She retired in 1997 from the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Pomeroy,Ohio after 44 years of nursing.She enjoyed fishing, quilting, reading, doing genealogy and playing the dulcimer.She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Barberton, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Vinton H. Jewell; two stepsons, James Jewell of Clinton, Ohio and William Jewell of Florida; one sister, Vicki Jane Sauers of Vienna, W.Va.; one aunt, Edna Ruth McClanahan of Nitro, W.Va.; two nephews, Neal Sauers (Lori) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Todd Sauers (Michelle) of Virginia Beach; two great-nieces, Maggie & Julia; two great nephews, Logan & Connor; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold “Dick” Jewell; one stepson, Clyde Jewell; and two infant brothers, Jackie Ray and George William Vassar. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna with Pastors Cecil Farmer and Todd Hill.Interment will follow at Meigs Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
