Betty Shrewsbury, 96, of Vienna, passed away April 10, 2018 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Parkersburg, June 12, 1921, the daughter of the late James P. and Agnes Norton Deem. Betty was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Women of St. Michael's. She was educated in local parochial schools attending DeSales Heights Academy and graduated from PHS with the class of 1939. For 16 years she was the director of the ARC local Association. Betty was a volunteer for local organizations, was a Grey Lady for the American Red Cross, delivered meals on wheels and volunteered with other groups. Betty is survived by her daughters, Anne Poarch of West Palm Beach, Fl. and Jane Burkey (Douglas) of Raleigh, NC; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Shrewsbury widow of her son David who passed away in October of 2016; three grandsons. Matthew Shrewsbury (Shelene) of Parkersburg,with great-grandson, Vince Shrewsbury; Bryce Burkey (Amanda) of Raleigh, NC. and Blake Burkey (Nicole) of Waynesville, NC; one granddaughter, Kristin Worley (Ryan) of Huntington, WV and one great-granddaughter, Mary Kate. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Gerald of 65 years and beloved son, David; three brothers, Joseph, Francis and Raymond Deem all of Parkersburg. Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg with Father John Gallagher officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in her memory.
