Betty Lou Hoyt stepped into glory last Thursday for a joyous reunion with her beloved husband, Irvin. She was 88. Betty was born December 17, 1929, in Caretta West Virginia, to Reuben and Elizabeth Ragsdale. She graduated from Big Creek High School and attended Bluefield Business College. She met her future husband, Irvin while serving him a hamburger at her mother’s restaurant in Oceana. They wed December 18, 1949 and were married 63 years until his death. An accomplished, yet self-taught piano player, she took organ lessons late in life and played both instruments at First Baptist Church in Williamstown for over 40 years. She was known for having a servant’s heart. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Norma Sue Asbury. Surviving are sons, Irvin and David, their wives, Tammy and Martha, grandsons, Christopher Hoyt, Jeremy Pope and Jacob Hoyt, great-granddaughter, Alaina Hoyt, sisters, Patty Parker and Peggy Belcher and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday at 11 am in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Williamstown, with Reverend David Easter officiating. Viewings will be Monday from 5 to 8 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna and Tuesday from 10 to 11 at the church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
