Bernetice Smith

September 17, 1921 — February 5, 2017

Bernetice (Williams) Smith, 95 of Belpre passed away Feb. 5, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center. She was born Sept. 17, 1921 in Auburn, WV a daughter of the late Hiram and Zora Bee Williams. Bernetice was a homemaker and a stamp collector and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Parkersburg. She was a charter member of the VFW Harris-Ritchie Auxiliary #3554, was their first president and was a member since 1939. Upon moving to Belpre, she was a member of the VFW #8289 in Belpre where she was past treasurer until 1985. She was a member of the United Commercial Travelers holding many offices up to and including Grand Counselor serving for six years. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She is survived by four sons, Howard Michael Smith (Beverly J.) of Belpre, Roderick Gordon Smith (Sherry L.) of Cutler, OH, John Stephen Smith (Tina L.) of Front Royal, VA and Rodney Keith Smith of Williamstown; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Smith; and one brother, Hugh Williams. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St. Parkersburg with Evangelist Tom Butterfield officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Worthington Manor Nursing Home especially to the Nurses and CNAs who provided for Bernetice’s emotional, medical and physical needs.
