Arnold W. Hoschar

Arnold William Hoschar, 97, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed on to heaven July 10, 2016. He was born October 28, 1918 to the late William Benjamin Hoschar and Lullabelle Casto Hoschar in Evans, W.Va. He was husband to the late Erma Jean Rhodes Hoschar for twenty seven years. Arnold was a veteran of WWII in the Medical Corp then transferred to the Air Force.He was employed at United States Quarry tiles with his father at an early age, worked construction five years helping to build the Wood County Airport and Parkersburg flood wall, worked for ten years at the Power Plant in W.Va. and worked for thirty years driving a semi-truck for Eazor Express. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball for the Moose Lodge, sponsored by Burdines Fruit Market, raising and showing horses in W.Va., Pennsylvania and Ohio and showed three stallions. He was a big fan of WVU football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. Arnold was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church in Jackson County, W.Va. and belonged to the United Methodist Church of Medina, W.Va. He was also a member of Wood County Senior Citizens, American Legion, VFW, the Eagles of Parkersburg, and Teamsters 175 of Charleston, W.Va. He attended one year at a one room school in Long Hollow, Jackson County. Then his mother wanted him to go to school in Parkersburg where he attended Willors School off Rt. 47, Jefferson School and Washington Jr High. He then left school to work with his father at the United States Quarry Tile. Arnold loved to spend summers on the family farm with his grandmother, Martha Jane Hoschar and Uncle Charlie Hoschar. He also spent a lot of time with Uncle Rob and Aunt Flora Barr and children on their farm working with horses. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Little Roy Hoschar and Violet Louise Hoschar (died as infants), Margaretta Fugate, Hazel Virginia Morris (Monroe), Jo Jr Hoschar (Joann), Ernie Casto Hoschar (Janet); uncles and aunts, Obai Hoschar (Lee), Charlie Hoschar, Philip; Flora Barr (Rob), Ellie Stewart (Marvin), and Cora Sayre (George); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Arnold loved his family. Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Mandy Keith (niece), Joyce McMullen (niece), and Lulu Bush (who also took care of Aunt Flora Barr) for their loving care. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. Officiating the service will be Raymond Tanner and Basil Barr (cousin). Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery South with full military rites by American Legion Post # 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m Thursday at the funeral home.
