Allen “Clair” Burkhart Sr., 74, of Rockport, W.Va., passed away on August 16, 2015 at his residence.He was born December 27, 1940 in Slate Creek, Wood County, W.Va. , a son of the late Alvin and Edith Shears Burkhart.Clair retired from Smith Concrete and was an avid outdoorsman and trapper. He was a lifetime member of the West Virginia Trappers Association, was past president of the Wirt County Trappers Association and was a member of the Mercer County Trappers. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Gabbart Burkhart; his step-mother, Iva Burkhart; one son, Allen (Amy) Burkhart Jr. of Rockport; four daughters, Elaine Richardson (Jeff Wilson) of Little Hocking, Ohio, Chris (Gary) Wigal of Elizabeth, W.Va., Mary (Ron) Clark of Rockport, and Marie (Derek) Huffman of Belleville, W.Va.; one sister, Janet (Gary) Casto of Rockport; two step-brothers, Jim (Pat) Manning of Indiana and Ray (Donna) Manning of Michigan; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Burkhart; two sisters, Nancy Joan Burkhart and Celia Diane Burkhart.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Randy Baker and Gary Sommerville officiating. Interment will follow at Limestone Cemetery.Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
